  • 2. Are there any concerns when bringing children and pets?

Small children and pets require extra attention. No barriers exist between the yard and the lake and the yard and the road. We do have a run line for pets.

    3. Can anyone use the water toys?

The kayak, canoe, row boat and tube floats are available for use by all our guests. However, Sailboat use is limited to experienced sailors. The lake's islands and wind conditions present challenges when sailing that require skill to ensure the safety of people and watercraft. Also we prefer that inexperienced swimmers and youth wear life vests that we provide.

    4. When is high season and when is low season in the Endless Mountain Region?

The Endless Mountain Region offers all year fun, with the high season running from June to September, when the lake activities can be enjoyed most. Mid-season runs from January to March when the mountains turn into a Winter Wonderland for skiing, riding snow mobiles, sledding and ice fishing. Low seasons are Autumn, when the forests turn brilliant shades of yellows, oranges, and reds, and Spring, when the birds return, flowers bloom and new growth abounds.

    5. What can the weather be like in Susquehanna County per season?

Temperatures from mid-May to September are quite warm during the day (70-90F) but pleasant at night (60-75F). Most days have part to full sun, but we have regular rain and occasional thunderstorms.

Fall is a little cooler. There air is crisp during the day (45-65F) and it dips below freezing occasionally at night (30-50F). When there's precipitation, it's usually in the form of rain but sometimes there are snow flurries and the odd 1-3 inches of snow.

Wintertime starts in earnest around mid-December and pretty much goes through mid-March. Temperatures can get quite cold here (-15F) or be fairly mild (35-45F). Snowstorms can leave us with anywhere from 2 inches to 2 feet of snow covering the ground.

Spring is cool and wet. Some days the warm sunshine beckons the summer to come and other days it feels like winter has yet to leave. Look for highs on warm days to be 40-60F and on cool days to be in the 30s. Lows are typically in 28-40F area. Early spring snowstorms and freezing rain are common. Snowmelt and rain limit outdoor activities.

In some cases this is possible to rent for less than a week, especially in the low season.

    12. What are the advantages of renting a private home?

    There are many reasons:

    • Private accommodation offers you, your family and friends a truly lakefront living atmosphere, more space, more comfort, more informality, more privacy, and more personal service.
    • Renting Abby's Lake House is great value. When calculated on a per bedroom or per person basis and considering all the "extras" you'd have to pay in a hotel, a private lakefront home vacation is significantly cheaper than staying at hotels or resorts, or even tiny lake "cottages".
    • Expenses for water toys, boats, life vests, firewood, lawn games, DVDs, broadband wireless and local and domestic long distance telephone calls are included, and therefore makes Abby's Lake House much lower in cost compared to a hotel where these items can easily double or triple your bill.
